Ken Ford Continued: are like that) It started when a few teenagers from Bridge Church’s Youth Group stopped going. When asked why, they said it was not challenging enough for them. A little while later my wife and I started a small group from Harstine Island at Bridge Church. We Started in January 2011 and ended in June 2011. The initial meeting is a planning and get to know you meeting. My wife and I have suggestions of what the group could do, however through prayer and discussions the group plans what they will do. Then My wife and I facilitate their desires. Our goals for the group is to disciple our young folks in hopes of encouraging them in their walk with Christ. It seems this age group is kind of forgotten. Some small group studies in homes or at church are sometimes uncomfortable for this age group as they sometimes feel they do not fit in. Another thought is this is the group that is starting or attending college and learning secular views that are not true. Since those views come from an authority figure they are not questioned unless the Christian is a strong person. This tends to lead people away from Christ and the church.
What are some of the challeges you have met so far in start up?
Not too many challenges so far as it is still very new. I have been attending Pastors meetings over the past year and have found that the pastors in the area seem to agree this is a needed group meeting. It was at their suggestion to move the group to Shelton instead of Harstine because Harstine is far away. The group we had on Harstine are all busy this year and will make it to Shelton when they can. Most have moved away for college this year. One married couple meeting with us is expecting a baby in October. We expect it will be hard to adjust life around a new baby and adding a meeting, but they live closer to Shelton than Harstine Island so it should be better for them. Pastor Mark from Mountain View Alliance quickly volunteered his church as a meeting place. Pastor Bruce from Shelton Christian Church was interested and took some information to his congregation they decided to start their own group. This is our hope and goal that the groups will have their own leaders, leaving us to start groups in other areas as we are missionaries on the Olympic Field for InFaith. The Olympic Field starts in the South around Chehalis North to Forks, East to Gig Harbor, and West to the coast. It is a large area to cover we are starting small.
